The landing of the Allied Forces at Normandy in June of 1944 is what became known as "D-Day." It marked the beginning of the end for the Nazis. Four more significant battles would take place before what became known as VE-Day (Victory in Europe Day) materialized.
In a similar way, we can view the Incarnation (God becoming man in Jesus Christ) as an invasion. God invaded the kingdom of darkness. The ultimate victory will materialize at some time in the future. We are living in between the time of God's triumphant invasion nearly two thousand years ago and the time of His final and fully implemented victory.
As in World War II following Normandy, we continue to fight battles. Though our enemy hangs on, John the Apostle encourages us by telling us, "The darkness is passing and the true light is already shining" (1 John 2:8 NIV). Satan and his forces are on their heels. Jesus pictures the Church as an offensive force against which Hell's gates cannot prevail (Matthew 16:18). Though the evil one is considered a usurper, he is nonetheless called the "god of this world" (2 Corinthians 4:4) and the "prince of the power of the air" (Ephesians 2:2). We are further told that "the whole world lies under the power of the evil one" (1 John 5:19). In other words, it appears that he hasn't been fully unseated yet, so we must fight on. Every human system and structure has come under his influence. We shouldn't be surprised that violence of every kind, hatred, "natural disasters," disease and war are commonplace. These are not reflections of God's will- God's will is seen in the life, teaching, ministry and Person of Jesus Christ (John 14:9). Did He produce any of these during His earthly ministry? No.
Jesus militated against such things and so must we. We must learn to "fight the good fight" (1 Timothy 6:12). We must learn to persevere (Hebrews 12:1,2). We must learn to "Stand strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might" (Ephesians 6:10) and we must revolt against sickness, disease, mental illness, addictions, pride, disobedience, hatred and demons. We must dismantle and destroy every lie that tells us that God is the author of these things.
Will you join this fight?
