Man is born for trouble as sparks fly upward - Job 5:7
Each day has enough trouble of its own - Matthew 6:34
In the world you have tribulation - John 16:33
Trouble is part of life! Duh! Who doesn't know that? That said, we have an aversion to it. We do everything we can to maximize our comfort and reduce suffering. Nothing wrong with that, but there are some things that are unavoidable. Things we can't possibly control. But trouble has an upside!
God specializes in troubling situations. He's "an ever present help in times of trouble" (Psalm 46:1). He likes to reveal Himself as this help. He wants to convince you that He'll be there for you. In order to do that, you need some adversity. I'm not saying God creates the adversity. Adversity has many sources. Sometimes we create our own. Sometimes the devil does. Sometimes others do. Sometimes "chance" does (at least Solomon thought so - Ecclesiastes 9:11). Whatever the reason for your trouble, even if it's of your own making, God wants to help you!
How is He going to show you that He is your personal provider unless you have financial need? Do you expect to experience God as your healer without sickness? He shows Himself to be "the God of all comfort" in our sorrow. And on and on it goes. I say this to say, "Don't let adversity threaten you!" Adversity is God's opportunity.
I'm not saying this as one who enjoys trouble. I don't. But if my life has taught me anything, it's that God relishes the chance to show up big when I'm facing trouble. So, no need to be afraid of it. When it happens, just send God an invitation to jump into the mess with you and ask Him to help you see what He wants to show you in it and how He wants to give you breakthrough.
