Paul learned that God's grace materializes and His very power is somehow "perfected" in human hardship (2 Corinthians 12:9). This discovery led him to celebrate trouble (2 Corinthians 12:10)! How do you beat a guy like that? You can't!
Last week, I revealed that while I believe God wants me well, I have yet to experience healing for my current issues. I won't go into detail, but they involve chronic pain. I don't dare compare my suffering to that of others. I know too many people who suffer greatly and I wouldn't trade places. I am highly functional and have a lot of energy, but sometimes feel like a racehorse with a broken leg. My energy says, "Go!" My body often says, "No!"
So what are my options? The same as yours. I can grumble. I can whine. I've done and sometimes do both. Neither has helped. I can express my desire for healing. That has helped. I can also ask The Father to show me how He wants to meet me in this journey during this season when the pain seems unrelenting. I am no hero. I am simply a guy who prefers experiencing God's grace over not availing myself of it. I believe He gives us grace for today, not for tomorrow. God's grace for tomorrow will be available. When? Tomorrow! Like manna- God provided it daily, but His kids had to go out and get it- as much as they needed, for each day.
Ask the best Friend any of us have ever had- namely, the Holy Spirit, to reveal if there are things that are getting in the way of your healing. Ask Him to show you what to do about them, while helping you not to obsess over getting better. Be sure to include your faith community in your journey. If you have not asked your church's leaders for healing prayer, do! If you know of people with healing ministries- seek them out. I have a friend whose wife was infertile. They went to specialist after specialist. They did everything that was recommended without success. Finally, a world renowned fertility specialist told them they could never have children. A short while later, they found themselves in a worship service with a man who has a healing ministry. He prayed for them. They now have four healthy children!
