According to Jesus, it is very important and not an insignificant part of our Christian journey. If we are not "faithful" in the way we manage it, we won't be entrusted with God's true riches. To some extent, we are left guessing as to what these true riches are, but I think we'd agree that, at the very least, they are the things money can't buy and also, it is likely, greater Kingdom responsibility.
Sloppy spending and poor giving habits abound. Credit card debt mounts, bills are overdue, and our anxiety grows. The good news is that this type of situation can be turned around. Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University is a refreshing and practical course to help us find our way financially.
God wants to be included in everything. We are to acknowledge Him "in all our ways" (Proverbs 3:4,5).
He believes in hard work (Ecclesiastes 9:10), generous giving, enjoyment (1 Timothy 6:17-19) and faithful stewardship (1 Corinthians 4:2; Colossians 3:23). Also, let's remember that God is not against wealth, but He does oppose greed. There is no biblical prohibition against wanting to better one's circumstances, unless that ambition is rooted in the false belief that the good life consists in amassing material resources (Luke 12:15).
Managing money is hugely important to God and is a true index of our ability to be entrusted with greater Kingdom resources. Let's not ignore this important matter.
