How long will you live? You can't possibly know precisely and you don't get a second chance at this one life. Yes, you get to do lots of stuff on the other side but once you've spent this life, the opportunities that existed in this realm during the time of your life are gone. So, you only get one chance at legacy. What legacy do you want to leave?
We tend to measure the value of legacy in big splashy ways. What if you are not a splashy person? What if you don't become the CEO of a Fortune 500 Company? What if you never write a best seller or find a cure for cancer or become a successful athlete? What if very few people ever know your name?
What if in the day-to-day tedium of life you love your spouse and children and grow in the grace and knowledge of your Lord and Savior, Jesus? What if during good times and bad you keep a steady course by tending to these relationships?
God created you for primarily two things: to experientially receive His love and to express His love to others. His love is after all, His essence, the very core of Who He is (1 John 4:8,16). If you are a brilliant theologian, but are not confident that you matter as you are and not as you think you should be, you are missing the mark. If you can articulate truth but not embody it, you are missing the mark.
Pay attention to what really matters. Tend to your heart. Learn to receive God's love. When you do you will be irrepressibly loving! Make this the cry of your heart as you seek the One Who is Love.
