Biblically informed Christians know that we are called to be and make disciples. Most of us have an idea of what constitutes discipleship- things like "followership," obedience, spiritual disciplines, giving, serving and so forth. What usually gets missed in discussions about discipleship is the one thing that, without which, discipleship is at best servitude. I'm talking about sonship and daughtership.
If you don't know that first and foremost, you are God's child, which, in practical terms means you are His beloved, efforts at discipleship will be rooted in anxious, performance-driven efforts to please God. Sonship/daughtership begins with the understanding that because of the reality that you are a child, He is in fact pleased with you.
A critical factor toward realizing this is understanding what it means to be His beloved. This simply means, be loved! In other words, before we devote energy to serving and busying ourselves with the various pieces of discipleship, we need to learn how to be loved. It takes God Himself to help each of us learn this. It is supernaturally driven and it is a process. Would you like to learn to simply be loved? He created you for that. If you don't get that, you miss the main thing!
Ask Him now to help you learn to be loved by Him.
